Building Your Own Computer

A WebQuest for CS 111 Section 50

The Process

  1. This is an individual assignment.

  2. You must first learn (review hopefully) terminology about computers.

  3. Now, from this point onward, you will want to keep track of the hardware and software that you want to purchase and how much it will cost. I would suggest putting each item that you decide upon in a table and specify the product manufacture, the cost and model.

  4. Determine what type of monitor they would need to buy.

  5. Determine what type of keyboard and mouse they would need

  6. Determine what type of printer they would need

  7. Determine how much hard drive space they would need

  8. Determine how much RAM (Main Memory) they would need

  9. Determine what type of processor they would need

  10. Determine what type of mother board (system board) they would need

  11. Determine what type of Power Supply they would need

  12. Determine what type of Network Connection, Ethernet or Modem, they would need.

  13. Determine what type of video card they would need.

  14. Determine what type of audio card they would need

  15. Determine if they needed a CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW or any combination of these

  16. Determine what Operating System would be best

  17. Now, you are to look for bundled systems that other vendors offer.

  18. Determine what a bundled product from Dell with similar specifications would cost.

  19. Determine what a bundled product from HP would cost

  20. Determine what a bundled product from Toshiba would cost
